FIRST SLOVAK SATELLITE
TECHNOLOGICAL PROJECT #skCUBE

Did you know, that Slovakia is the last country around, which did not send own satellite in the orbit around Earth? Let’s change this! We have a lot of talented people at our universities. We brought them together and together we build the first Slovak satellite called skCUBE, which we want to shoot in space already in the first half of 2016.

  • I’m glad, that we have such a unique technological project in Slovakia. It is a clear proof of quality of Slovak scientists and university students, which have potential to become experts and future co-authors of world-significant space projects under lead of the European space agency ESA. Slovak republic should become a member of this organization (which for example builds also the European navigational system Galileo) already during this year 2015. I believe that, this will become a reality and so, also by the efforts of Slovak organization for space activities, Slovak scientists and engineers will gain the chance to participate on development of modern space technologies.

  • Letecká fakulta Technickej univerzity v Košiciach má v kozmickom sektore bohaté skúsenosti, nakoľko práve Košická letecká škola je alma-mater Slovenského a Československého kozmonauta a ich náhradníkov.

MEDIA

Slovak media are giving us space for presentations about this unique project. We are very thankful for this, because it helps us to reach our goals. We still seek further actively for more space for presentations about project skCube to wide public.

Our story

Is Slovakia an assembly hall? We do not agree with this and we want that nobody doubts about that too by doing our work. We were connected by our passion to space and new technologies. We know very well, that there are many companies which innovate and make Slovakia a good name around the world.

In 2009 we decided to contribute at least by a little to better future of our country and to establishment of well-educated industry. Therefore, we try to reach out to ordinary folks and inspire young people to study technical subjects.

We have begun our own technological projects and we speak regularly about benefits of Slovak cooperation with European space agency ESA. Such cooperation would open doors for Slovak companies with regards to their participation on cutting edge space research, which ESA undoubtedly does. We are happy now that our government approved Slovak membership in ESA’s program for European cooperating states called PECS, which is a middle stage before becoming a full member. The path there was not easy. We speak to science communities and companies about benefits of this step already for years. And we do not only speak but also prove with our own activities, that flying to space is not sci-fi neither for our small country.

Since 2010, we regularly send stratospheric balloons, which fly to an altitude of 40 kilometers above the ground to the edge of space. One of our other project, the first Slovak satellite skCube, is a logical consequence to go even further, higher. We want to demonstrate the potential of Slovak republic to participate on top space research and the ability to face world-wide competition in space industry with high return value.

At the same time, we want to demonstrate exemplary cooperation of state, Slovak universities, science institutions, astronomy fans, Slovak companies and our supporters. When everyone contributes a bit, satellite skCube will be truly national technological project of the year 2016. Let’s do this.

Why are we doing this

Our main aim is to demonstrate potential of our country. We want to show, that also in Slovakia we have excellent universities and science institutions. We have top companies, which can do highly sophisticated space research also in Slovakia. We want to show it to the whole world through our first satellite Made in Slovakia.

KONEČNE AJ SLOVENSKÝ SATELIT

Spojili sme študentov z troch slovenských univerzít a v spolupráci s nimi realizujeme prvý slovenský satelit (skCUBE).

DOVIESŤ SLOVENSKO DO ESA

The satellite

The skCube belongs to a category of satellites called cubesats – little cubed satellites with dimension of around 10x10x10 cm with weight around 1 kg. It will carry a camera and also an experiment, with potential to reach world wide magazines.
