Is Slovakia an assembly hall? We do not agree with this and we want that nobody doubts about that too by doing our work. We were connected by our passion to space and new technologies. We know very well, that there are many companies which innovate and make Slovakia a good name around the world.
In 2009 we decided to contribute at least by a little to better future of our country and to establishment of well-educated industry. Therefore, we try to reach out to ordinary folks and inspire young people to study technical subjects.
We have begun our own technological projects and we speak regularly about benefits of Slovak cooperation with European space agency ESA. Such cooperation would open doors for Slovak companies with regards to their participation on cutting edge space research, which ESA undoubtedly does. We are happy now that our government approved Slovak membership in ESA’s program for European cooperating states called PECS, which is a middle stage before becoming a full member. The path there was not easy. We speak to science communities and companies about benefits of this step already for years. And we do not only speak but also prove with our own activities, that flying to space is not sci-fi neither for our small country.
Since 2010, we regularly send stratospheric balloons, which fly to an altitude of 40 kilometers above the ground to the edge of space. One of our other project, the first Slovak satellite skCube, is a logical consequence to go even further, higher. We want to demonstrate the potential of Slovak republic to participate on top space research and the ability to face world-wide competition in space industry with high return value.
At the same time, we want to demonstrate exemplary cooperation of state, Slovak universities, science institutions, astronomy fans, Slovak companies and our supporters. When everyone contributes a bit, satellite skCube will be truly national technological project of the year 2016. Let’s do this.
